1. Fit Is Everything
The nicest, most expensive suit will not look good if it doesn’t fit right. Remember: all suits can look a little similar to the untrained eye, but you can spot a well-tailored suit from 50 metres away.
Polka dots add flare without looking too ostentatious and herringbone or plaid can look daring without going too far.
Stitching is no longer the sign of a well-made garment, but it does look classy. On the other hand, never use contrast stitching.
This may be the difference between tacky and classic. Stick to the middle: not too soft, not too strong. If you’ve got a nice material, bring attention to it by minimizing accessories. Remember, the most versatile is a super 120 durable wool.
Don’t accessorize too much. Using a pocket square and a tie bar? Skip the lapel pin. If you’re wearing a watch with your suit, keep it simple and classy. White face gold indices, and a brown strap. Enough said. Save the water-resistant watch for the gym! Choose one fun accessory for the day and stick to it!
If you prefer lighter suits, go with a darker accessory like a pocket square to create a visual anchor close to your centre. Two variations of the same colour always look good together. This season, the lighter the colours, the better. Solid colours are definitely in right now.
A patterned tie is a great complement to a simpler suit. This spring in particular is all about one accessory standing out: the tie.
Without a tie, keep your shirt collars on the smaller side.
Tailoring your pants a bit short will add a level of distinctiveness to your outfit.
We know that the fashion may be to have a shorter jacket now, but that can make men look a little stocky. Keep the jackets cut at least to the first knuckle on the thumb.
A more luxurious shoe is another way to make a simple outfit look a little more exciting. Loafers are still very much in and you can now even wear them with any suit.
Keep it simple. Don’t make it look like you’re trying too hard to make a statement. The best suits look like they were made for you and you didn’t even ask for it. Give us a call if you have any other questions!
